ABOUT HOBY

At HOBY, We believe the most valuable resource communities can invest in is their youth. We provide students with an amazing opportunity to learn how to lead and make a difference in the world. We teach young leaders "how to think, not what to think" - creatively, critically, and compassionately.

SEMINAR 2020

Davis & Elkins College

Thursday, May 21 - Sunday, May 24

"Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you're doing, you will be successful."

-Albert Schweitzer

CORE LEADERSHIP SKILLS

Much of the work at HOBY involves young people exploring and identifying their unique leadership skills. Every student is different, and there is no attempt to impart a predefined set of attributes onto HOBY participants. We stress self-knowledge, uniqueness, and authenticity, not conformity. Students learn to mobilize their own unique traits and are exposed to particular leadership principles that they can explore and incorporate in a fashion that is true to their own personality.

ABOUT HOBY WV

HOBY West Virginia was established over 40 years ago in March 1978. Our first Seminar was held at Jackson's Mill and since then we've grown to host 200 high school sophomores every year.

PROGRAMS

Our leadership programs are designed to prepare students to turn their ideas and goals into reality. Each program adheres to the five core HOBY values: Volunteerism, Integrity, Excellence, Diversity, and Community Partnership.

GET INVOLVED

HOBY West Virginia wouldn't be what it is today without the dedicated support of our alumni and volunteers. Learn more about getting involved with our organization.

ALUMNI IN ACTION

HOBY West Virginia runs on 100% volunteer power. Most of whom are HOBY West Virginia alumni. Throughout the year the Seminar Planning Committee seeks partnerships with community organizations whose support allows for the execution of our program.
